Lavrov: US adds fuel to the fire of conflict in the Middle East while claiming commitment to a just solution to the Palestinian issue

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov has confirmed that the United States is deliberately adding fuel to the fire in the Middle East, despite all the public statements claiming  its commitment to a just solution to the Palestinian issue.
“The Americans continue to speak publicly about their commitment to a just solution to the Palestinian issue, and at the same time they are practically adding fuel to the fire of armed confrontation,” Lavrov said in an interview with Novosti Agency published on Thursday.
He pointed out that Washington has obstructed for six months the adoption of a resolution in the UN Security Council to cease firing which gave Israel the green light to destroy the Gaza Strip.
“When the Americans were forced last March to abstain from voting and the Council adopted a resolution demanding a cessation of hostilities, the United States representative said without the slightest embarrassment that the UN Security Council document was not binding”  Lavrov continued
The Russian minister pointed out that Washington’s announcement of suspending the supply of ammunition to Israel included only one type of ammunition, namely aircraft bombs, as part of only one shipment of short-term aid.
A few days later, the US House of Representatives approved a bill to cancel the suspension of arms supplies to Israel.
He added: If the bill prepared by Republicans is adopted in the Senate, it will no longer allow the White House to prevent military aid to “Israel.”
Lavrov stressed that Moscow’s experience in dealing with the Americans clearly indicates that their statements should not be trusted .
“We wanted to believe them for a long time, and we entered into negotiations and concluded agreements, but it later became clear that Washington did not intend to fulfill all of its “promises” that had been confirmed among other  matters, on paper and in UN Security Council resolutions,” Lavrov said.
