President Al-Assad Affirms Syria’s Solidarity with Putin’s Efforts to Restore Security, Stability to Ukraine

DAMASCUS, (ST)- President Bashar Al-Assad has affirmed Syria’s solidarity with Russian President Vladimir Putin’s efforts to restore security and stability to the friendly state of Ukraine.

The remarks were made in a cable sent on Thursday by President Al-Assad to his Russian counterpart to affirm the support of the Syrian leadership and people to President Putin’s wise political leadership and efforts aiming to bring back security and stability to Ukraine and to confront attempts to make a coup against legitimacy and democracy in the service of the interests of the extremists and the terrorists.  

President Al-Assad affirmed that President Putin’s policy, which is based on international legitimacy and UN principles, is a guarantee to all peoples of the world for creating a balanced and transparent world order that respects countries’ sovereignty and peoples’ right to self determination.

His Excellency reiterated Syria’s support for Putin’s reasonable and peace-loving policy which seeks the establishment of a world order that backs stability and fights extremism and terrorism in the world.

He expressed his confidence in President Putin’s ability to restore legitimacy and stability to Ukraine and in the Ukrainian people’s will to eliminate terrorism and extremism in their country.

President Al-Assad said that the Russian leadership’s stances in support for justice and right will contribute to making the future for which all people of the world hope and will help the world avoid more dangerous turning points.

In a press conference on Tuesday, President Putin affirmed that what happened in Ukraine was against the constitution and it was a coup to seize power by force, noting that “the current Ukrainian authority is illegitimate”.

Putin also reiterated that “Russia keeps its legitimate right to defend the Ukrainians by all possible means in case the chaos in Kiev spreads to cover eastern areas in Ukraine.”
