ICJ decision to immediately halt Zionist aggression on Rafah is widely welcomed

CAPITALS, May.25, (ST)_The decision issued yesterday by the International Court of Justice to immediately halt the Israeli aggression against the city of Rafah in the south of the Gaza Strip and ensure the arrival of UN investigation committees to the Strip to investigate crimes of genocide against the Palestinians was widely welcomed at Arab and international levels.

The Arab Group at the United Nations welcomed the ICJ’s decision, as the Deputy Permanent Representative of the UAE to the UN, Mohammed Abu Shehab, whose country chairs the group this month, said in a statement: “The Arab Group at the Organization asserts the need for Israel to implement all temporary measures issued by the Court without any delay.”

He affirmed the need to protect civilians, humanitarian workers and United Nations staff, and to condemn all attacks targeting them as a result of the violations being committed by the occupation forces in Gaza.

For his part, the Permanent Representative of Palestine to the UN, Riyad Mansour, asserted the need for the occupation to adhere to the implementation of all decisions imposed on it by the Court of Justice, as they are binding on all parties falling under the framework of the Treaty on Combating the Crime of Genocide.

He thanked the Republic of South Africa and all the countries that joined and supported the request to impose more among the precautionary measures and decisions to protect civilians in the Gaza Strip, stressing that work will continue within the framework of the Arab Group and others within the Security Council and in the General Assembly to implement all the decisions recently issued by international institutions.

Moreover, the Palestinian Ministry of Foreign Affairs appreciated the decision requiring the occupation to take precautionary measures, including allowing all investigative or fact-finding committees or any other investigative body regarding the charge of genocide and authorized by the United Nations to enter Gaza, calling on the international community to assume its responsibilities in this regard and put pressure on the occupation to immediately implement these decisions and put an end to the crimes of genocide that the occupation continues to commit against the Palestinians.

The United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres today announced that he would transmit the ICJ ruling on the Israeli aggression on Rafah to the United Nations Security Council (UNSC).

Secretary-General Spokesperson Stephane Dujarric told the reporters that Guterres would properly transmit the notice of provisional measures ordered by the Court to the UNSC for action.

Dujarric said that Guterres stressed that “decisions of the Court are binding and trusts that the parties will duly comply with the Order from the Court.”

“The Secretary-General recalls that …decisions of the International Court of Justice are binding, and he trusts that the parties will duly comply with the order from the court,” he added.

The Saudi Ministry of Foreign Affairs described the decision as a positive step towards the moral and legal rights of the Palestinian people, stressing the importance of implementing the relevant international legitimacy resolutions.

While the Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, Ahmed Aboul Gheit, considered that the decision reflects his conviction that the International Court and its judges believe that Israel has not taken any measures that respond to the requests and conditions set by the court last March, which reinforces the charge of genocide against it, and also reflects the severe dangers that the court senses regarding the continued attack by the occupation army on Rafah, and the forced displacement it is causing. and widespread violations.

South African Foreign Minister Naledi Pandor also welcomed the international justice’s decision, describing it as “the most resolute in terms of the interim measures and a very clear call for a ceasefire in Gaza.”

Belgian Foreign Minister Hajjah Lahbib called on the occupation entity to implement the court’s decision to cease fire immediately, saying: “The human tragedy and violence in Gaza must stop.”

the Arab Parliament also called on the UN Security Council and the international community to oblige the Israeli occupation entity to implement the decision of the International Court of Justice to stop its aggression against Rafah and ensure the access of UN investigation committees to the Gaza Strip and respect for the resolutions of international legitimacy and international law.

The Arab Parliament said in a statement issued yesterday: “We welcome the decision of the International Court of Justice and we value the positions of the countries that stood by the Palestinian right and that sought to prosecute the occupying entity for its crimes,” pointing out that this decision provesthe seriousness of the situation in the Gaza Strip, where no place is safe and civilians face the risk of starvation.
