UN official: What is happening in Gaza Strip is far worse than a disaster

New York, (ST) – A UN official of the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs, Edem Wosornu affirmed that what is happening in Gaza Strip as a result of the ongoing Israeli aggression cannot be described in words.

She said that the situation there is worse than describing it as a disaster or hell.

Palestinian Wafa News Agency quoted Wosornu as saying before the UN Security Council: “Frankly, we do not find words to describe what is happening in Gaza. “She added:“We described it as a disaster, a nightmare and hell on earth”.

Wosornu pointed out that the situation is deteriorating in Gaza Strip as a result of the continuous Israeli bombing from land, sea and air.

She clarified that 75 percent of Gaza’s population, meaning 1.7 million Palestinians, have been forcibly displaced inside Gaza, many of them three or four times, and 1.1 million people in Gaza are facing catastrophic levels of hunger, while the sector remains on the brink of famine, in addition to the scarcity of fuel and supplies and the enormous pressure on the health sector.

Wosornu called for protecting the Palestinians, their housing and the vital infrastructure on which they depend, facilitating urgent and unhindered humanitarian access to Gaza Strip, ensuring the protection of humanitarian workers and United Nations employees, who are working under very difficult conditions in Gaza, and providing adequate funding, especially for UNRWA.
