Syrian cinema icon Abdul Latif Abdul Hamid left rich cinematic legacy

The Syrian artistic movement has lost a cinema legend by the passing away of the 70-year-old director Abdul Latif Abdul Hamid on Wednesday, May 15, leaving behind a distinguished cinematic legacy and a rich career that included writing, directing and acting that enriched the Syrian and Arab cinema.

Among the most distinguished works of The late director are the films LayaliI bn Awa” (“The Nights of the Jakal) “Rasaael Shafahiya” (Verbal Messages), “Sou’oud Al-Matar” (RisingRain), Qamaran wa Zaytouna” (Two Moons and an Olive), and “Naseem Al-Rouh” (Soul Breez), Ma Yatlubuhu al-Musstamiun (At Our Listeners’ Request) Kharej al-Taghtiya (Out of Coverage) and  ( Matar Ayloul (September’s Rain).

The Syrian Filmmaker Abdul Latif Abdul Hamid was born in Lattakia in 1954. He earned numerous awards for his creative works at local, regional and international film festivals, including Damascus International Film Festival, the Carthage Film Festival and Rabat International Film Festival.

Tributes poured in from the Syrian art stars who mourned the great director Abdel Latif Abdel Hamid through their accounts on social media, expressing their sadness of this great loss.

Among the Syrian stars who paid tribute to the late filmmaker were Tim Hassan, Qusay Khouli, Amal Arafa, Qais Sheikh Najib, Sulaf Fawakherji, Ayman Zeidan, Shoukran Murtaja, Dima Kandaleft, Kinda Hanna, Basem Yakhour, Director Joud Saeed and others.
