London-(ST)- International Amnesty confirmed that it is horrific to see the Palestinian Nakba of 1948 repeated on its 76th anniversary, with Gazans forced to flee repeatedly in search of safety as the Israeli aggression against the Gaza Strip continues since the seventh of last October.
The organization said in a statement on the occasion of the commemoration of the Nakba:
“The ongoing forced displacement of nearly two million Palestinians and the comprehensive destruction of civilian property and civilian infrastructure in the Gaza Strip highlight Israel’s horrific record of displacing Palestinians and its continued refusal to respect Palestinian’s right to return over the past 76 years.”
It added: “This anniversary commemorates the displacement of more than 800,000 Palestinians in 1948,” noting that in recent days, Israel has forcibly displaced more than 150,000 Palestinians from Rafah in the southern Gaza Strip, coinciding with the intensification of its ground and air operations in the region.
The statement quoted the organization’s research director, Erika Guevara Rosas, as saying:
“Generations of Palestinians throughout the occupied territories have been subjected to the trauma of being uprooted from their land with no hope of returning to their homes. She called on the international community to prevent further forced displacement of Palestinians and enable them to return.”
She added: “It is horrifying to see the frightening scenes of the 1948 Nakba disaster repeated, noting that Palestinians are exposed to systematic human rights violations and the risk of genocide and famine.”
Yesterday, International Amnesty called on the United States, Britain and other countries to stop supplying the Israeli occupation entity with weapons that violate the rights of Palestinian civilians.
She also considered that governments that continue to supply “Israel” with weapons as complicit in war crimes committed by the Israeli entity in the Palestinian territories.
