Lavrov: Russia will continue to work with the Organization of Islamic Cooperation to confront Western challenges

Moscow, (ST) –  Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov affirmed that his country will continue to work with the Organization of Islamic Cooperation to confront Western challenges hostile to them.

During a welcoming speech to the participants in the Young Diplomats Forum of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation countries held today in the Russian city of Kazan, Lavrov said: We are ready, together with the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, to continue strengthening inter-religious and intercultural dialogue to protect the spiritual and moral values common to all religions in the world.

“We are ready to combat Islamophobia and hostility to the Russians and racial intolerance in the world,” he added

Lavrov stressed that Russia, based on its position as the largest Eurasian power and a civilized country, traditionally maintains an honest relationship based on mutual respect with Islamic countries.

Lavrov said: We are united because we are strongly committed together to the cultural and civilization identity of the peoples of the world and their natural right to be proud of their traditions and history and to determine the paths of their development.

He added that Russia firmly supports the formation of a more just and democratic multipolar world order based on the principles of the United Nations Charter.
