Dutch police suppress pro-Palestine protests at the University of Amsterdam

Amsterdam, (ST) – Dutch police forcefully suppressed peaceful pro-Palestine protests organized by students and employees of the University of Amsterdam, while the university administration suspended classes for two days.

AP quoted Enzo Rocio, a professor of political science at the university, as saying: The administration summoned the police to suppress the protesters, as he and his wife, who also works at the university, were repeatedly beaten with batons by the police.

In turn, a history student at the university said: I have never witnessed this type of violence before. He said that police officers assaulted some students and removed tents inside the buildings that the students were setting up to participate in the solidarity strike with Gaza.

Demonstrations against the Israeli aggression on Gaza were organized at the University of Amsterdam and Dutch universities over the past weeks.

The protests expanded over the past week and thousands participated, to which the authorities responded by bringing in police and riot control forces to suppress the protesters.
