Iran, Spain FMs : Confronting Terrorism, Renouncing Violence, Embracing dialogue to Resolve Crisis in Syria
TEHRAN,(ST)_ Iran ‘s Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif and his Spanish counterpart Jose Manuel Garcia Margall stressed that dialogue, renouncing violence and fighting extremism and terrorism for ensuring the success of a political solution to crisis in Syria.
“We have common views with regard to the fight against terrorism and extremism and the need to address this phenomenon,” Zarif said in a joint press conference in Tehran yesterday with Margall, adding that ” our two countries have a strong will to restore and strengthen their relations in all economic, commercial and industrial fields.”
Zarif described his talks with Margall as ” positive,” noting that “the two sides discussed during the meeting regional and international issues and ways to develop bilateral relations for the benefit of the two peoples.”
On the Iranian nuclear file, Zarif stressed that Iran has proved its good intentions with regard to this matter and that the nuclear agreement between Iran and the six-party international, which was signed last November will succeed if the other party has a good faith, calling for respecting the rights of the Iranian people to keep their peaceful nuclear program.
With regard to tensions in Ukraine after the west- backed opposition took control of authority Zarif said that Ukraine’s future is in the hand of the Ukrainian people and that aggravating the situation there is not in any one’s interest, as the region is passing through very sensitive conditions.
For his part, the Spanish Foreign Minister welcomed the progress made in the Iranian nuclear issue and expressed hope for durable nuclear agreement between Iran and the group of five plus one.
