Arnous, Balkhi discuss enhancing cooperation between Syria and WHO

Prime Minister Hussein Arnous discussed today with the Regional Director of the World Health Organization(WHO) for the Eastern Mediterranean Hanan Balkhi and the accompanying delegation, enhancing cooperation between Syria and the organization in securing the needs of the Syrian health sector, joint cooperation programs, training and qualification of medical staff to keep pace with developments in international medical work, and transferring expertise to the Ministry of Health’s cadres.

Arnous affirmed that the health system is gradually recovering, pointing to the support provided by the government to the health sector through the rehabilitation of hospitals and health centers, and the support for pharmaceutical laboratories.

He expressed appreciation for the efforts of the organization, which showed much cooperation with the Syrian government, both in combating Corona and in the earthquake file. He pointed to the efforts made by the government to compensate for the shortage in advanced devices.

For her part, Balkhi explained the organization’s plans and programs in the Middle East region, which focus on scientific cooperation, training and rehabilitation, updating information and data, and benefiting from the computerization process that helps in developing work and providing doctors with scientific expertise.

Also today, the Syrian Ministry of Health and the World Health Organization (WHO) signed the Country Cooperation Strategy until 2025.
