Syria, Iran discuss cooperation, acceleration of the implementation of agreements 

Prime Minister Hussein Arnous discussed with the Iranian Ambassador in Damascus, Hussein Akbari, and the accompanying delegation, a number of bilateral cooperation files in the fields of energy, transportation, industry, intra-trade, banking, insurance, and tourism, as well as the necessity of accelerating the implementation of the agreements and understandings that the two countries reached during the last period, so as to achieve the common interests of both sides.

During the meeting, it was emphasized that all measures would be taken to facilitate the implementation of joint investment projects and to enhance the role of the business sector in the two countries in stimulating economic cooperation and trade exchange in light of the facilities and merits provided to this sector, especially in export and import operations and the existence of promising investment opportunities in a number of sectors in Syria, especially in tyres, milk powder and tractors industries.

The Prime Minister stressed that the relations between the two friendly countries and peoples are strategic, rooted and constantly developing, pointing to the importance of strengthening joint action and expanding horizons to include various priority areas, which contributes to confronting the challenges and state of instability that the region is witnessing, in light of the attempts of Western powers to impose their will on the peoples of the region.

Premier Arnous explained that the Syrian government is making every effort in cooperation with international cooperation partners to improve the reality of the electrical sector, which is linked to all productive sectors, in order to reactivate the wheel of production and secure the local markets’ need for various basic goods and materials, achieve economic development and secure more job opportunities.

For his part, the Iranian ambassador expressed his country’s desire to achieve a qualitative leap in economic relations and to move forward in developing bilateral cooperation in a way that reflects the will of the leadership and the peoples of the two countries.

The meeting was attended by Dr. Qais Khadr, Secretary-General of the Cabinet.
