Syria participates in the regional consultation meeting for the secretaries of the Arab National Committees of UNESCO

Yesterday, with the participation of Syria, regional consultation meeting for the secretaries of the Arab National Committees for UNESCO were launched in the Omani capital Muscat.

The consultations, in which the Secretary-General of the Syrian National Committee for Education, Science and Culture, Dr. Nidal Hassan, participated for the Syrian side, aimed to discuss priority issues in the Arab region within the framework of the priorities of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) and to strengthen regional cooperation and relations between the UNESCO national committees in the Arab region.

The procedural session of the consultations included the election of the president of the meeting, his deputies, and the rapporteurs. Syria elected a rapporteur for the meeting, and then the participants discussed the items on the agenda. The working sessions were devoted to discussing current and future risks and opportunities in the Arab region, the role of UNESCO, and its added value in the Arab region, and the repercussions of these discussions on UNESCO’s future program.

Today’s  discussions will include a focus on the strengths and strategic role of the national committees during the coming period and the proposals for the role of the UNESCO secretaries in enhancing the participation of the committees in its next program and the mechanism for enhancing cooperation between the Arab and African national committees.
