Visiting Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Secretary General Dmitry Mezentsev said here on Wednesday the Islamic Republic of Iran plays an active role in this organization, IRNA reported.
Mezentsev made the remarks in a meeting held at the Institute of Political and International Studies of Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Tehran.
He underlined that Iran enjoys significant potentials that would lead to further expansion of cooperation with the SCO member and observer countries in various areas.
With no doubt, Iran is a unique member of SCO, he said, expressing hope that the country could enhance its all-out relations with the organization.
The SCO is an intergovernmental security organization founded in 2001 in Shanghai by the leaders of China, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan. Iran, India, Mongolia, Afghanistan and Pakistan have an observer status at the organization.
