President Al-Assad: Regional Cooperation Necessary to Fight Terrorism

DAMASCUS- President Bashar Al-Assad has stressed that countries of the region should cooperate to fight the terrorism and extremism hitting them.

President Al-Assad’s remark was made Wednesday as he met Alaeddin Boroujerdi, Chairman of the Iranian Shura Council’s Committee of National Security and Foreign Policy.

The President affirmed the importance of coordination between parliaments of the region’s countries and other friendly countries to unify stances and efforts against Wahabi thinking, which poses the biggest threat to all peoples of the region and the world.

In a press conference following his meetings with President Al-Assad and other senior Syrian officials, Boroujerdi affirmed Iran’s support for Syria’s resistant stances and reiterated that the only way out of the crisis in Syria is launching a national dialogue and leaving the Syrians to decide their future themselves through free and democratic elections.

On the international conference on Syria “Geneva2”, Boroujerdi said he was astonished at the biased role played by the UN Syria Envoy Lakhdar Brahimi.

“Brahimi wasn’t neutral at all during the conference, he was absolutely biased to the other side,” Boroujerdi clarified.

He added that from the very beginning of the crisis in Syria, “we ruled out any military solution to this crisis and we are happy to see that supporters to this view are increasing.”

The Iranian official warned against the danger of the terrorism and takfiri mentality not only on the region, but on the entire world.

President Al-Assad Stands in Resistance Front against Zionist Entity

Borouherdi stressed that “despite the pressure practiced against him, President Bashar Al-Assad continues to stand in the resistance front against the Zionist entity and there are many parties which support such policy and unique steadfastness.”

“When the Americans, who claim democracy, say that President Al-Assad shouldn’t run for the coming presidential elections, this means that all what we know about democracy in the world has been flouted,” Boroujerdi said.

He pointed out that the United States and the Western countries, which provide military and financial support for the terrorists in Syria and send hundreds of foreign fighters to the country, “should realize that this support will in future threaten their national security inside their own states, because, one day, the crisis in Syria will end and those foreign terrorists will find no place for them in Syria. Therefore, we urge the international community to use all its potentials in the war against terrorism.”
