Minister and UNRWA discuss the mechanisms of cooperation to support Palestinian refugees

Damascus, (ST) – The Minister of Social Affairs and Labor, Louay Al-Munajjid, discussed with the Director of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) in Syria, Amanya Michael Abe, mechanisms of cooperation and coordination between the General Authority for Palestinian Arab Refugees and UNRWA, and the mechanism to support its work in a way that serves the target segments.

The meeting, which was attended by the Director General in charge of the General Authority for Palestinian Arab Refugees, Taha Farhat discussed the criteria adopted to determine the segments of Palestinian refugees targeted for cash and non-cash assistance, and the mechanism for developing these criteria, especially in light of the stifling financial crisis affecting UNRWA.

The meeting also discussed developing a new mechanism for the current verification process to evaluate the impact of this aid and its sustainable impact,  in addition to the recruitment mechanism approved by UNRWA and developing it to select the most qualified and most appropriate employee under a competitive and fully independent selection process,.

The mechanism for accepting Syrian students into UNRWA schools and the standards adopted for this was also discussed.

In turn, Michael expressed his appreciation for the facilities and support provided by the Ministry to UNRWA to carry out its tasks and implement its activities in all areas that include Palestinian refugees in Syria.
