FM Statement: Cooperation with international Humanitarian organizations working in the Humanitarian Field

DAMASCUS,(ST)_ The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates said that the UN Security Council on Saturday adopted a resolution on the humanitarian situation in Syria and in this context, Syria renews its continued cooperation with the UN in the provision  and delivery of humanitarian assistance to those affected by the crisis in Syria in all Syrian provinces, without discrimination.

In a statement today, the ministry stressed willingness to cooperate with the UN Resident Coordinator and international organizations working in the humanitarian field in Syria to agree on mechanisms that ensure the implementation of resolution 2139 adopted by the Security Council on the basis of respect for UN Charter principles and norms of the international law, especially respect for national sovereignty, the role of the state, the principles of neutrality, impartiality and not to politicize humanitarian aids.

The ministry added that Syria has cooperated with the UN and other international organizations t to meet citizens needs, through successive plans agreed since 2012 through that for 2014 provided for expanding UN activities, resulted in allowing the distribution of food aid to about 8.3 million citizens every month.

The Ministry asserted that addressing the humanitarian crisis in Syria requires treatment of its roots and the factors behind exacerbating them, especially externally sponsored terrorism and lifting unilateral sanctions imposed on Syria by the UN, the European Union and other countries.

“ In this context, Syria views the UN security council recognition of al-Qaeda linked escalated  takfiri terrorism and the Council’s call to fight this terrorism and defeat it, as a step in the right direction,” the ministry said, adding that Syria expects additional steps by forcing states involved in providing financial and military support, training, sheltering and arming of terrorist groups in Syria to refrain from supporting terrorism and to comply with Security Council relevant resolutions.

The ministry added that the Syrian government while reaffirming readiness to contribute to every sincere effort to ensure the basic needs for its citizens, notes, the importance of honest international efforts to uplift unilateral sanctions imposed on Syria, thereby undermining the living conditions of the Syrian citizens.
