Syria condemns US veto against draft resolution to grant Palestine full membership in UN

Syria condemned the United States of America’s veto last night against the draft resolution submitted by Algeria before the Security Council to grant Palestine full membership in the United Nations.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and expatriates pointed out in a statement, a copy of which was received by SANA, that the United States of America’s obstruction of the Security Council’s historic responsibility to uphold the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people is yet another stigma added to its track record in striking and undermining the foundations of collective international action and its blind bias in favor of the Israeli occupation entity, and evidence of its political hypocrisy through its selective handling of the implementation of Security Council resolutions, all of which emphasize the need to meet the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people.

“On the other hand, the majority of member states voting in favor of the resolution clearly reflected their support for the world conscience and its duty to lift the historical injustice that the Palestinian people have been subjected to for more than 70 years,” the Foreign Ministry added.

“Syria stresses that preventing the establishment of an independent and sovereign Palestinian state on Palestinian soil will only contribute to prolonging the state of insecurity and stability in the Middle East region caused by the Israeli entity’s continued occupation of Arab territories and its practice of the most heinous crimes of aggression against its people. The war and the crimes of genocide committed by Israel in the Gaza Strip for several months is a clear example of this,” the Foreign Ministry said.

“Syria highlights its firm conviction that defying the international will and obstructing the Security Council from doing justice to the Palestinian people will not weaken its determination and its continuous struggle to achieve its legitimate rights,” the Foreign Ministry concluded .
