Russian Officials Welcomes Syria’s Joining to the Economic Space of Russia

MOSCOW, (ST) –  A number of Russian economic officials and parliamentarians noted that the joining of Syria to the complementary economic structure in the economic space of Russia and the Commonwealth of Independent States is a positive attitude.

During an economic forum held at the headquarters of the Chamber of Industry and Commerce held recently in Moscow, the Russian economists and parliamentarians pointed out that the Customs Union, which includes Russia, Belarus and Kazakhstan is a starting point for the establishment of the promising Eurasian Economic Union. The Russain economists welcomed expanding the number of participants, including Syria.

The Syrian Ambassador to Russia, Dr. Riad Haddad, in an intervention during the forum stressed Syria’s desire to join the Free Trade Area of the Eurasian countries of the Customs Union.

“The founding countries of the economic bloc are friendly countries to Syria, with which we have cultural, political and historical ties, referring to the need to raise the level of economic and trade relations to live up to the level of existing political relations”, Dr. Haddad affirmed.
