Jaafari : Humanitarian Support for Syria will only be achieved if correlating with Halting Terrorism
NEWYORK,(ST)_ UN Security Council adopted today a unanimous resolution on humanitarian aids in Syria.
Syria ‘s permanent representative to the UN, Dr. Bashar Jaafari, stressed that the Syrian government has been keen since the beginning of the crisis to improve the humanitarian conditions, on top of its priorities, and also worked on the restoration of security and safety to all parts of the country, and is fully committed to all its international obligations.
Jaafari added that the Syrian government’s cooperation on humanitarian assistance revealed ill intentions within the so-called ” opposition “, pointing out that some countries that support terrorists in Syria are responsible for preventing and impeding the subsistence of the Syrian citizen.
He stressed that providing humanitarian support for the Syrians can be only achieved when correlated with stopping terrorism in word and deed.
He pointed out that, the Syrian government exercises its right to fight terrorism which strikes Syria without discrimination, stressing that terrorists are targeting the destruction of Syria ‘s infrastructure and resources, aid convoys, besieging areas and prevent civilians from getting aid and using them as human shields.
In turn, Russia’s permanent representative to the UN, Vitaly Churkin, noted attempts made to exploit the humanitarian situation in Syria, and that it is necessary for all parties to cooperate with the international organizations and the Syrian government.
Churkin also noted that it is still difficult to deliver aid to areas controlled by insurgents who open fire at aid convoys and use civilians as human shields, pointing out that the “ opposition” activities are designed to undermine the delivery of humanitarian aid and must be condemned. He affirmed the opposition ‘s responsibility to eradicate terrorism and to cooperate with the Syrian government to this end.
For his part, China’s Permanent Representative to the UN said that the UN Security Council should be objective and work to maintain international peace and security and emphasize Syria’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
He added that the international community, should let the Syrian people decide their own destiny, abide by a political settlement and continue efforts to achieve national reconciliation and provide humanitarian aids.
