Cairo (ST) – The League of Arab States condemned the heinous campaign that the Israeli settlers continue to launch against the cities and towns of the West Bank, calling on the UN Security Council to take action to end this situation.
“The settlers carry out attacks, most of which occur under the protection of the Israeli authorities whose impunity encourages the settlers to carry out more attacks on Palestinian lives and property”, the League stated today.
The statement stressed that: “The crimes committed daily by the occupation in Gaza should not cover up what the West Bank is witnessing in terms of a clear rise in the frequency and seriousness of violent crimes that are committed by armed settlers every day.”
“The imposition of sanctions by some countries on a number of settlers represents a small late step that is insufficient to deter the escalating phenomenon and to provide protection for the Palestinians in the West Bank.”
The statement stressed the need for the Security Council to take action to end this shameful situation, put an end to Israel’s impunity regarding its crimes in the West Bank, and make these settlers pay the price for their ongoing crimes against the Palestinian people.
Since last Friday, settlers have launched their attacks, under the protection of the occupation forces, on several villages and towns in the West Bank, where a young man from the village of Beitin and another from the village of Al-Mughair were martyred, in addition to wounding dozens others and burning dozens of homes, vehicles and private property.
