Abdullahian: We expect the European Union to strongly condemn the Israeli aggression against the Iranian consulate in Damascus

Tehran- (ST)-  Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir Abdollahian announced that Iran expects the European Union to strongly condemn the Israeli aggression against the Iranian consulate in Damascus immediately.

The Iranian IRNA news agency quoted Abdollahian as saying during a phone call yesterday evening with the European Union High Representative for Foreign Policy and Security Affairs Josep Breuel: “European officials always call on Iran to exercise restraint, while the Zionist entity, in violation of international laws and regulations, has attacked a diplomatic site protected based on the Convention on Diplomatic and Consular Rights, and through this terrorist act it violated regional peace and security as well as the security of diplomats and diplomatic places.”

The Iranian Foreign Minister added: “Imagine if such an incident had occurred in the environment of Ukraine’s war against a Western embassy building, what would have been the European Union’s reaction.”

Abdullahian pointed out that the genocide and war crimes committed by the Israeli entity in Gaza continue at the same time with the support of America, and if the latter does not have a serious will to stop them and stop its support for the Israeli entity, it bears direct responsibility for expanding the scope of tension in the region.

In a similar call with the Foreign Minister of Malta, Jan Borg, whose country holds the rotating presidency of the UN Security Council, the Iranian Foreign Minister appreciated the extraordinary meeting of the Council regarding the aggression against the Iranian consulate, adding: Tehran expects the Security Council, as the body for peace and security in the world, to issue a resolution condemning the entity’s attack, Zionist attacks on Iranian diplomatic facilities.

For his part, Burg condemned the Israeli attack on the consulate building, considering it a violation of international and humanitarian laws.

The Maltese Foreign Minister also stressed the importance of Iran’s active presence in the current April 18 meeting of the UN Security Council with the aim of trying to reach a ceasefire in Gaza.
