WHO: The destruction of Al-Shifa Hospital -end of health system in Gaza

Geneva, (ST) –  World Health Organization spokeswoman Margaret Harris confirmed that the destruction of Al-Shifa Hospital in Gaza City is devastating to the health system in the Strip.

Wafa News Agency quoted Harris as saying in statements today: We made contact with the employees and they told us that Al-Shifa Hospital had disappeared and was no longer able to function in any way. “Its destruction caused death to the health system in Gaza, as it was the place where people went to obtain good health care, she added”

Harris indicated that at least 21 patients were killed during the occupation’s siege of the hospital. She referred that the employees had to gather the patients together and they did not have food or water.

Yesterday, the occupation forces withdrew from inside Al-Shifa Hospital and its surroundings, west of Gaza City, leaving hundreds of martyrs and massive destruction that led to the hospital being completely out of service.

During the occupation’s siege of the hospital, which lasted for more than 14 days, they destroyed the specialized surgical building, burned the main reception and emergency building, and destroyed all medical equipment.
