Damascus-(ST)- Christian sects in Syria that follow the Western calendar celebrate today glorious Easter, the feast of the Resurrection of Jesus Christ, the prophet of Love and Peace, by holding prayers in churches and places of worship.
In the Melkite Catholic Patriarchal Cathedral of “The Lady of Nayah” in Zaitoun Quarter in Damascus, a religious mass was held, presided over by His Beatitude Patriarch Youssef Al-Absi, Patriarch of Antioch and All the East for the Melkite Catholic Church. He was assisted by the Patriarchal Vicar General, Bishop Nicholas Antipas, and a number of venerable priests, while the cathedral choir served the mass.
During his speech at the Mass, Patriarch Al-Absi pointed to the sublime meanings of Glorious Easter, which are concentrated in every work that sows peace, smiles and joy in a person’s life, pointing out the importance of emulating the resurrection of Jesus Christ with forgiveness despite all the injustice, evil and atrocities that happen in the world that we see happening every day.
Al-Absi called for an end to the Israeli aggression against Gaza and occupied Palestine, concluding his speech by praying to God to protect Syria, its people, army, and its leader, Mr. President Bashar al-Assad, and to restore security ,asking God to have mercy on martyrs, and to recover wounded.
