A number of activities held in Tartous and Aleppo governorates marking the Holly Ramadan

The activities  of the “Old Tartous Ramadaniyat” initiative , which  kicked off on Saturday in the Old City Square of Tartous city, included  heritage exhibitions and competitions, in addition to religious chants and rituals.

The specialist in the living heritage program at the Syria Trust for Development, Fidaa Darwish, said in a statement to SANA’s correspondent that the initiative is one of the outcomes of a workshop of adopting the development map of the Old City.

He stressed this event aimed to  revive cultural ,  social and commercial developments that were held previously in this important archaeological place and to enhance the role of the local community.

Darwish added that the event is being held with the participation of official bodies, including the City Council, the Directorates of Tourism and Endowments, and some civil society associations.

The specialist indicated that the six-day event is accompanied by holding various activities including organizing  a commercial market which contains  industries, crafts, and food products concerning this blessed month.

He added that a number of craftsmen of  the handicrafts market have participated in this event  through  displaying their work in  12 huts and 10 stands bearing the feature  of small shops.

Darwish underlined that a number of activities will be held that target  children with the aim of  introducing them to the  heritage and historical features of the Old City of Tartous.

In turn, Head  of the Department of the Old City of Tartous, Eng.  Reem Akra, underlined that this event contributes to activating the cultural and economic movement in Tartous city through attracting a big number of visitors to see the religious and historical archaeological monuments there.

A number of participants from the people of the Old City expressed the importance of restoring the shiny image to this place which expresses ancient cultural heritage.

Meanwhile, in Aleppo province The“City Markets” shopping activities, organized by the Syria Trust for development and the Aleppo Chamber of Commerce, kicked off on Saturday  in the “Al-Majidiyah” Silk Market and  Al-Harir and Al-Banadekah  Khans in the Old City of Aleppo.

During the event,  food products,  ready-made clothes, fabrics, embroideries and sweets were offered with discounts and encouraging prices.

Director of  the Old Aleppo Manaret (beacon )  of the Syria Trust for Development, Ahmed Kubba, stressed that the goal of the event is to achieve positive intervention in the markets and sell at reduced prices of up to 30 percent, within the markets of old Aleppo.

Head of the Aleppo Chamber of Commerce, Amer Al-Hamwi, said that these events aim to provide support to small and starting projects, pay attention to productive families, and help them market their products within the old markets of Aleppo to reactivate these heritage markets.
