Cuban President: US abstaining from voting on ceasefire in Gaza is shameful

Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel Bermudez has condemned the United States’ abstaining from voting on the resolution presented to the United Nations Security Council and which called for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza, describing this behavior as “shameful and inhuman.”

The resolution was approved by 14 member states.

In a statement on his account on X platform, Canel Bermudez said that the UN Security Council approved  a resolution demanding a ceasefire in Gaza during the month of Ramadan, and despite the high number of victims of the genocide committed by Israel against the Palestinians, the United States continues to reject peace through its positions, considering that “what is happening is a disgrace to the world.”

Likewise, Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez said in a post on X: “The UN Security Council adopted a resolution demanding a ceasefire in Gaza during the month of Ramadan, and the United States of America was the only country that did not support it, even though the text does not call for a permanent ceasefire, and this is what we consider an urgent matter,”

He indicated that the American position deserves condemnation and rejection.
