Coalition fallacies and illusions hinder Geneva talks

The insistence of the coalition delegation called opposition to avoid the discussion of halting terrorism and violence in Syria means that they are not serious about finding a political solution for the crisis in Syria. Moreover, their rejection to recognize that there is terrorism in Syria indicates that they are part of the conspiracy being hatched against Syrian people and they constitute the political cover for terrorism.

Combating terrorism is a duty of each Syrian citizen who should assume to preserve his homeland, and anyone who lingers in that, puts signs of inquiry about the reality of his Syrian nationality. The agreement on the item of counterterrorism makes us assured that who wants to be a partner in building future, his heart, brain and effort should focus on the restoration of security and stability in Syria.

The Syrian official delegation submitted a statement on counterterrorism and the terrorist crimes perpetrated in Syria and the massacres at the hands of terrorists as the other delegation doesn’t recognize that there is terrorism in Syria.

The unprecedented escalation of terrorism in Syria and the massacres of gunmen in Maan in Hama and a village in al-Qunaitera coincided with the Geneva talks. Geneva document affirms the need for finding atmospheres of security, stability suitable environment for Geneva talks. No item can be tackled before finishing the discussion of counterterrorism and reaching agreement on the articles of the project for implementing the communiqué.

In compliance with the Syrian people’s aspirations for restoring security, safety and stability, the coalition delegation assumed their responsibility and took a strong unified stand against terrorism. They announced Syria’s agreement to the agenda proposed by UN Envoy to Syria Lakhdar Brahimi which starts off by rejecting violence and combating terrorism. But the other side pressed ahead with its stubbornness and intransigence.

The Syrian people will not accept any political solution that doesn’t heal its wounds and restore tranquility and safety to them, which is why the Syrian official delegation insisted on discussing counterterrorism in accordance with the first Geneva communiqué. The parallel discussion of counterterrorism and the expanded government as some proposed is a feeble and impractical proposition that doesn’t achieve the desired accord.

The Syrian official delegation also responded to the fallacies put forth by the other side, debunking them with documents, figures and data which showcase the crimes of terrorists and their destroying of infrastructure in Syria.

The other side should rise up to the high national standards of the Syrian people in regards to combating terrorism, because Syrians want to know if the other side actually wants to fight terrorism or wants to maintain its current policy.

The coalition delegation tried to start the discussions with the transitional body without approving any item of counterterrorism, but Syria’s official delegation insisted on the item of counterterrorism first.

There is no serious will on the part of the coalition delegation and their supporters to combat terrorism and this is the decisive point which has made everyone in the hall understand that there is no commitment and that there is no national partner in the other side to combat terrorism.
