Iravani : The Syrian crisis can only be solved with full support for the sovereignty, unity and territorial integrity

Iran’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations Amir Saeid Iravani, called on the Security Council to stop the provocative Israeli occupation entity’s attacks on Syrian territory and hold it responsible for these aggressive acts.

“The crisis in Syria cannot be resolved without full support for the sovereignty, unity and territorial integrity of Syria,” Iravani said during a Security Council meeting on Syria, stressing that these essential elements cannot be ignored in any way.

“The measures of politicizing humanitarian aid, preventing the return of refugees and displaced persons and imposing unilateral sanctions will only prolong this crisis and worsen the suffering of the Syrian people,” Iravani added, stating that addressing the root causes of the crisis requires substantive steps to ensure peace, security and lasting stability, and that all parties concerned must fully adhere to many fundamental principles.

Iravani pointed out that the Syrian people will not tolerate the continued occupation of their land or any violation of its sovereignty and the international community must stand against these actions, stressing that his country once again renews its demand for the immediate withdrawal of all foreign forces illegally exist on Syrian territory, especially the American forces.

Iravani went on to say: the provision of urgent assistance is very important, but it cannot be relied on as a sustainable and long-term solution. He explained that the focus should be on the reconstruction of vital infrastructure, creating conditions for the safe return of refugees and displaced people, pushing the political process forward and the immediate lifting of unilateral sanctions on Syria.

The Iranian delegate reaffirmed his country’s commitment to resolve this crisis and continue to support the Syrian-led political process facilitated by the United Nations and to help the Syrian government and people to restore the unity and territorial integrity of its Land.
