Nebenzia: US continues to plunder Syrian wealth on anti-terrorism pretext

Russia’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Vassily Nebenzia, stressed that the United States continues to plunder Syrian wealth under the pretext of combating terrorism.

Nebenzia said during a meeting of the UN Security Council yesterday on the situation in Syria: “Next September, it will be ten years since the illegal military presence of the United States in Syria-a presence that is hiding behind the alleged pretext of combating terrorism, and in fact they are engaged in looting Syria’s resources and playing a destabilizing role for security and stability.”

“The Americans have stopped fighting against terrorists in Syria, including ISIS. They have even used these terrorists for American special interests, sabotage, destruction and fighting the Syrian army.

They are also seeking, in cooperation with their European allies, to whitewash the terrorists of the al-Nusra Front, who control the Idlib region, ” Nebenzia added.

The Russian representative pointed to Washington’s hypocrisy regarding the arrival of humanitarian aid to Syria, as it constantly talks about the importance of humanitarian supplies provided by the United Nations across the border to the northwestern regions of Syria , stressing that ” The United Nations has sent dozens of assessment and monitoring missions to northwestern Syria from Turkish territory, but neither Damascus nor the members of the Security Council know about the real purposes of these trips.”

“There is only one conclusion that follows from this, which is that the UN Secretariat puts cooperation with the terrorists of the al-Nusra Front above dealing with the legitimate authorities in the Syrian Arab Republic. There is no need to talk about the Western delegations to the Security Council, they are ready to tolerate their terrorists in Idlib,” Nebenzia said.

The Russian representative stressed that the Israeli air attacks on the territory of Syria violate its sovereignty and the basic rules of international law, and said: “We are particularly concerned about the intensification of attacks by Israeli forces on Syrian civilian targets and such irresponsible actions carry the risk of dragging the region into a large-scale regional confrontation.”

“We strongly condemn such attacks on the territory of the Syrian Arab Republic, consider them a flagrant violation of the sovereignty of this state and the basic norms of international law, and also note that these raids have serious consequences for the timely humanitarian response of UN bodies,” Nebenzia added, pointing out that the silence of Western countries about the Israeli attacks is obvious hypocrisy.
