Lebanese Minister of Agriculture: The Israeli attacks have caused severe damage to the agricultural sector
Beirut, (ST) – Lebanese Minister of Agriculture Abbas Hajj Hassan affirmed that the continuous Israeli bombing and attacks on South Lebanon have destroyed vast areas of land and caused severe damage to the agricultural sector.
In an interview published on the ministry’s website, Hajj Hassan said: The Israeli occupation entity’s attacks affected all sectors and caused severe damage to agriculture, as at least 6,000 hectares of agricultural land were directly damaged and 2,000 hectares were completely destroyed.
He pointed out that the Israeli bombing eliminated 60 thousand olive trees, various fruitful and non-fruitful trees, and vast areas of dunams.
Hajj Hassan said that the damage to various sectors as a result of the continuation of these attacks was estimated at two and a half billion dollars, and this affects the Lebanese national economy first and the national domestic product second, which led to an increase in the prices of vegetables produced by agricultural lands at this time of the year.
He stressed that the Israeli entity seeks, through its devastating bombing of the agricultural sector, to break the will of the Lebanese to leave their land and flee from it, in addition to turning the lands into scorched earth.
