Brahimi calls for trilateral UN-US-RF meeting on Syria

GENEVA-The Special Envoy of the United Nations for the crisis in Syria, Lakhdar Brahimi, said he hoped for a trilateral meeting on Syria between U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry and Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, according to ITAR TASS.

Second round of Syrian talks in Geneva concluded

Speaking to journalists after the end of the second round of Syria talks in Geneva on Saturday, February 15, Brahimi said he would discuss this issue with the U.N. Secretary-General and would brief the Security Council and its five permanent members on the state of affairs.

He said earlier that Russia and the United States had pledged to help unblock stalled negotiations between the Syrian sides.

“They have kindly reaffirmed their support for what we are trying to do and promised that they will help both here and in their capitals and elsewhere to unblock the situation for us because until now we are not making much progress in this process,” Brahimi said after a meeting with Russian and U.S. senior officials on Thursday, February 13.
