Syria and India discuss agricultural cooperation

The Minister of Agriculture and Agrarian Reform Muhammad Hassan Qatna discussed with the Ambassador of the Republic of India to Syria Irshad Ahmed ways of cooperation in the fields of agricultural scientific research, product exchange, and development of agreements signed between the two countries.

During his meeting with the Indian ambassador in the ministry building, Minister Qatna pointed to  the importance of benefiting from Indian experiences in the scientific, research, applied and production fields, using modern technologies in agriculture, cooperating in the fields of qualifying and training cadres, organizing plant and animal quarantine systems to facilitate product exchanges, and activating the principle of bartering in products to secure Fertilizer and some production requirements in exchange for Syrian products that can be exported to India.

Minister Qatna noted the necessity  to benefit also in the domains  of livestock, especially research topics related to embryo transfer, silkworm breeding, silk production, developing existing breeds in Syria and the necessity of holding periodic meetings for technicians in the two countries to organize this work. .

For his part, the Indian ambassador stressed the importance of developing and updating the signed agreements and implementing them, expressing his readiness to transfer all the ideas presented to his country’s government and lay the necessary foundations for their implementation.

The meeting was attended by Assistant Minister Dr. Rami Al-Ali, the Director General of the General Authority for Scientific Agricultural Research, and a number of directors of the central departments in the Ministry.
