Euro-Med Human Rights Monitor : Elderly people in Gaza are victims of Israeli bombardment and starvation policy

The Euro-Mediterranean Human Rights Monitor highlighted the crimes of the Israeli occupation in Gaza Strip and its targeting of the elderly, whether directly, or through the policy of siege and starvation against the Palestinian people, in addition to the denial of health care.

“Daily deaths among the elderly have been documented as a result of crimes of starvation and deprivation of treatment committed by Israel in Gaza Strip in a systematic and widespread manner, especially in Gaza city and its north,” the Euro-Med Monitor said in a statement on Sunday.

The statement added: Most of these cases do not reach the hospitals that are partially operating in north Gaza, due to the difficulty of access and the danger of movement as a result of the continued aggression. Consequently, these cases die and are buried next to their homes or in temporary cemeteries spread throughout the Strip, the number of which has so far exceeded 140 cemeteries. .

The Euro-Med Monitor indicated that the number of elderly people (over 60 years old) amounts to 107,000, about 5 percent of the population of Gaza Strip, and all of them have become victims of Israeli violations and massacres that have left a dangerous humanitarian situation for all segments of society.

The statement indicated that the Israeli occupation targets the elderly in numerous ways, including bombing homes, where large numbers of casualties were recorded among them, and dozens of them were killed in direct executions, whether by sniper operations or firing bullets from quadcopters.

The monitor called on the international community to put pressure on Israel in order to stop the crime of genocide against the Palestinian people, completely lift the siege on Gaza Strip and hold Israel accountable for its crimes and grave violations against the Palestinians.
