Damascus(ST) – Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Bassam Sabbagh met today at the ministry’s headquarters a delegation from the World Food Programme (WFP) led by Rania Ibrahim Dagash, Assistant Executive Director of the programme.
Sabbagh expressed his appreciation for the program’s important role in Syria and in maintaining global food security.
Sabbagh stressed the need not to politicize humanitarian work, and that Syria remain among the program’s list of priorities, especially in the light of the continued imposition of unilateral coercive measures on the Syrian people.
For her part, Dagash presented the efforts made by the WFP to deal with the financial crisis resulting from the decline in the level of global funding, which most UN agencies are suffering from, stressing the programme’s commitment to provide humanitarian aid to the Syrian people.
The meeting was attended by Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Ambassador Ayman Raad, Director of the Department of International Organizations and Conferences Safwan Barakat, and Third Secretary Nour Ali, Director of the Deputy Minister’s Office.
