Nebenzya: Stopping aid to millions of Palestinians is immoral

Russia’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Vasily Nebenzya, affirmed that stop providing aid to millions of Palestinians by stopping funding the work of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA), is immoral and it politicizes a humanitarian issue.

TASS quoted Nebenzya as saying before the UN General Assembly: “The UNRWA staff members were immediately dismissed before any investigation was conducted, based solely on Israel’s allegations. We call for a reconsideration of this step until all the circumstances of what happened are clarified.”

“UNRWA funding must be fully restored, otherwise the agency’s blackmailers will fully share the blame with Israel for all the consequences of this inhumane step for the people of Gaza,” Nebenzya added.

Nebenzya expressed Russia’s gratitude to all member states that rushed to help and made additional financial commitments, calling on other countries to support UNRWA on a depoliticized basis in the interest of ensuring its sustainable and uninterrupted work.

It is noteworthy that a number of countries, including the US, the UK, Germany and Canada, announced the suspension of UNRWA funding, which sparked widespread criticism around the world.
