Washington fails Security Council attempt to issue a statement holding Israel resposible for the Rasheed Street massacre in Gaza
The Security Council failed at dawn today to issue a presidential statement, because of America, holding the Israeli occupation responsible for the brutal massacre committed against Palestinians who were waiting for food aid on Al-Rashid Street in Gaza City, killing 112 martyrs and 760 Injured.
WAFA reported that the Council held a closed meeting at Algeria’s request, where it submitted to the Council a draft presidential statement in which the 15 members of the council expressed their deep concern about the massacre committed by the occupying forces by shooting thousands of Palestinians awaiting the arrival of aid trucks. The statement held the Israeli entity responsible for the massacre.
Although 14 members supported the presidential statement, the United States, a permanent member of the council, succeeded in thwarting its adoption.
The United States has prevented 6 times the adoption of a Security Council resolution to halt the ongoing aggression against the strip since the seventh of last October by failing two Russian draft resolutions, and using its veto 4 times against draft resolutions submitted by Russia, Brazil, the United Arab Emirates and Algeria.
Following the meeting, Palestine’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Riad Mansour, called for a resolution calling for an end to the aggression, stressing that the brutal massacre in Rashid Street is proof that as long as the Security Council is inactivated and the veto is imposed, Palestinians are dying.
Mansour said: “The Security Council should tell the occupation to stop, and if they have the courage and determination to prevent the recurrence of these massacres, what we need is an immediate ceasefire.
