Geneva, (ST) _ Deputy Foreign and Expatriates Minister Dr. Faisal al-Miqdad stressed that the fight against terrorism and halting violence are in the forefront of the agenda of the Syrian delegation in Geneva, noting that everyone should know that the primary goal is to stop the shedding of the blood of the Syrians and that no talk about any credible real political process without a cessation of violence, terrorism and foreign interference in Syria,as demanded by the Syrian people.
Miqdad told a news conference today that it is time to stop terrorist acts and reach an agreement between the Syrians themselves, warning that if terrorism is not stopped in Syria, it will spread in the countries of the region and the world.
Miqdad noted the need to discuss Geneva 1 statement item by item to resolve the crisis in Syria, adding that the official delegation would not hesitate to discuss the ” transitional government ” logically and not through fabricated, fake and artificial priorities that some want to impose on this meeting.
He described the law passed in Saudi Arabia on jailing terrorists as a ” step backward ” as it instigates terrorists not to return back, saying that such terrorists would prefer to commit suicide or murder and continue terrorism in Syria rather to return to Saudi Arabia.
In response to a question about the possibility of the application of Chapter VII at the UN Security Council against Syria, Miqdad expressed confidence that this matter will not pass, but a mere farce and a game in order to embarrass Syria and its friends noting that Chapter VII should be used against the United States, France and Britain, the strong supporters of terrorism, besides this Chapter must be used in order to save those who were killed yesterday in Maan village northeast of Hama, reminding that the UN Charter, which was drafted by a Syrian participation, was laid to serve the people and not to serve colonialism and killers of people.
He explained that the armed terrorist groups prevented the access of food since several months to the Central Prison in Aleppo before it was agreed with the International Red Cross to pass some food baskets in cooperation with the Syrian Red Crescent, but the gunmen once again, stood against the agreement, a matter which led to the death of many prisoners of starvation due to the blockade and the attacks imposed by the armed groups on the prison.
Miqdad reiterated that the Syrian government is defending its people against terrorists who are using all kinds of weapons, pointing out that the responsibility of all governments in any country in the world is to protect the people, stressing at the same time that the Syrian government does not use weapons against civilians as terrorists do, but only targeting armed terrorists.
