ICJ concludes its sessions on the consequences of Israel’s practices in the occupied Palestinian territory
The Hague (ST) – Yesterday, the International Court of Justice (ICJ) in The Hague concluded its public hearing on the request for an advisory opinion on the Legal Consequences arising from the policies and Practices of “Israel” in the Occupied Palestinian territories, including Al-Quds.
Representative of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation said before the court that the genocide war waged by the Israeli occupation in Gaza since the 7th of last October, the attacks by settlers and the occupation forces, and the apartheid regime it imposes in the West Bank expose the aggressive and racist nature of the occupation to the world.
He stressed the need for the international community to take action to stop the massacre in Palestine and implement UN resolutions that stipulate the necessity of ending the occupation.
The representative affirmed the necessity of respecting the decisions of the ICJ regarding the crimes committed by Israel against the Palestinians.
For her part, the representative of the African Union affirmed the right of the Palestinians to self-determination, sovereignty and independence over the entirety of their territories occupied in 1967 and for Al-Quds to be the capital of the Palestinian state.
She denounced the occupation’s aggression against Gaza and the siege imposed on the Palestinian people, calling on the ICJ to take a serious stand to end the occupation.
The ICJ began its sessions on the 19th of this month regarding the Legal Consequences arising from the Policies and Practices of Israel in the Occupied Palestinian Territory, including Al-Quds, during which it heard briefings from 52 countries in addition to the African Union and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation.
These sessions came in the context of the UN General Assembly’s request to obtain an advisory opinion from the court on the effects of the Israeli occupation, as the Assembly’s Fourth Committee, concerned with political issues and decolonization, adopted on November 11, 2022, a draft resolution submitted by the State of Palestine to request an advisory opinion from the ICJ about the nature of the presence of the Israeli colonial occupation in Palestine.
