Al-Mikdad: Syria rejects the West’s use of human rights mechanisms to interfere in countries’ internal affairs

Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Faisal Al-Mikdad has stated that Syria stresses its rejection of the collective West’s attempts to use human rights mechanisms and impose politicized decisions to interfere in the internal affairs of countries with the aim of implementing its political agendas.

In a video statement before the high-level segment of the 55th session of the Human Rights Council in Geneva, Al-Mikdad said that Syria reaffirms its full support for the Palestinian people who are being subjected to genocide that constitutes clear evidence of the racist nature of the Israeli occupation entity.

“The Israeli occupation’s war of genocide against our people in Gaza Strip is clear evidence of the racist nature of the occupying entity through its practices that are reminiscent to the apartheid system and medieval times. The occupation forces are proud of killing about 30,000 Palestinians, most of them women and children, and of deliberate targeting of medical personnel and civilian facilities, including hospitals and schools, all with unlimited political, military and economic support from human rights advocates and the collective West, led by the United States”, Al-Mikdad clarified.

Al-Mikdad went on to say that the heinous and inhumane practices of the occupation entity are accompanied by hate speech practiced by the politicians and military leaders against the people in Palestine to justify their policy of systematic and mass killing, which emphasizes the importance of items 7 of the agenda of the Human Rights Council and the need to renew commitment to this item as it highlights the practices and systematic violations of the Israeli occupation against basic human rights.

The top Syrian diplomat reiterated Syria’s right to restore the occupied Syrian Golan completely and affirmed its rejection of all the “Israeli” measures to perpetuate the occupation that blatantly violate UN resolutions, most notably UNSC Resolution No. 497 of 1981.

Al-Mikdad pointed out that the countries of the collective West always seek to employ human rights mechanisms to implement their political agendas and achieve their geopolitical aspirations under the pretext of protecting human rights.

He explained that the resolution entitled (The Human Rights Situation in the Syrian Arab Republic) constitutes the perfect example of the falsehood and claims of the Western countries that use this non-consensual and politicized resolution to distort the image of the Syrian state, through circulating lies that have been exposed to all.

As an embodiment of these western policies, the direct acts of aggression by the Israeli occupation against Syria have continued and they were accompanied with US aggression early this month, Al-Mikdad said, noting the insistence of the West to continue supporting terrorist organizations and separatist militias, looting the natural resources of the Syrians and imposing unilateral coercive measures which constitute a direct comprehensive war against the human rights of the Syrians.

The minister underlined Syria’s commitment to protecting its citizens from the violations and attacks being carried out by the terrorist groups against them, starting from its national and international obligations. He also affirmed Syria’s keenness to do its best to prepare necessary and suitable environment for the return of the refugees and the internally-displaced citizens to their areas of original residence, pointing out that Syria will continue to confront the catastrophic impacts of the unilateral coercive measures which were imposed by western countries with the aim of starving the Syrian people and violating their rights.

Al-Mikdad reiterated that Syria, despite all challenges, renews its determination to continue collective work as to enhance human rights everywhere, on the basis of neutrality and objectivity and away from double standards, politicization and selectivity.
