DAMASCUS- Syria’s protection measures against H1N1 flu virus were the focus of discussions held yesterday between Health Minister Sa’d al-Nayef and Elizabeth Hoff, the World Health Organization (WHO) Representative in Syria.
Protection measures are being taken in the light of the WHO’s warning that some H1N1 cases were discovered in the East Mediterranean area.
Al-Nayef pointed out that the ministry has recently distributed anti-H1N1 vaccines on health directorates in all Syrian provinces and has urged reactivating the response plan in this respect.
Al-Nayef called on the WHO to supply the ministry with more anti H1N1 vaccines and other related medicine necessary to confront any possible pandemic.
The ministry’s medical and technical measures are accompanied by preparations to launch a comprehensive health awareness campaign on self protection against the virus, said al-Nayef.
For her part, Huff expressed the organization’s full readiness to ensure the required medicine and to help the ministry prepare the response plan in all health institutions, particularly under the current critical circumstances in which the health sector in Syria is subjected to increasing pressure.
