DAMASCUS, (ST) – Industry Minister, Kamal EddineTomah, recently met with a delegation of Syrian businessmen gathered in Egypt. The minister discussed with them ways of developing their existing business in Syria and the re-launch of what stopped of them because of the current circumstances.
The Minister of Industry underlined the government’s keenness to take advantage of all the Syrian potentials and their great expertise, calling Syrian industrialists, who were forced by circumstances to travel outside the country, to return to their homeland and contribute to the reconstruction and start their business again.
“The ministry is ready to help in cooperation with all ministries and other bodies to secure the return of these industrialists and restart their facilities,” the minister said.
“At the stage of reconstruction, Syria needs several industries specially Syria’s annual need of cement in the next phase of between 35 and 40 million tons, while the total current product not exceed ten million tons per year. This requires more investments in this industry and other related industries to ensure the needs of the country instead of importing them,” the minister added.
“The current crisis has negative effect on the Syrian industry whereas 48 public companies are of production in addition to the partial recession of implementing production plans for the rest of the other companies as well as the damage to hundreds of private companies which led to a decline in the industrial production. This situation requires the help of businessmen and national investors to contribute to re-cycle the wheel of industrial production again,” the minister underlined.
For his part, head of the delegation eng., Khaldoun al Mouk’I, confirmed the industrialists and Syrian businessmen keenness who are in Egypt to return to Syria and re -start their facilities and their business again, pointing out that many of their activities, their businesses and their workers are still continuing in work and production.
