Indian port workers refuse to ship weapons to and from “Israel”

New Delhi, (ST) – The Indian Trade Union on Tuesday announced that thousands of workers in 11 government ports refused to load or unload arms shipments heading to and from the Israeli entity.

The British newspaper, “The Independent” quoted a statement by the Indian Water Transport Workers’ Union as saying that it has decided to refuse to load or unload arms shipments to and from “Israel” or any other country that can handle military equipment for the war it is waging against the Palestinians.

The statement added: “We, port workers, are part of the trade unions. We will always stand against war and the killing of innocent people, especially women and children”.

For his part, the Secretary-General of the Union, T. Narendra Rao said: The workers will boycott dealing with any ship carrying weapons, ammunition, or arms shipments to “Israel”. He stressed that it is a measure that expresses solidarity with the Palestinians.

A clothing manufacturing company in India had previously decided to stop orders to manufacture “Israeli police uniforms” in protest against the brutal aggression in Gaza Strip, as a result of which the number of Palestinian martyrs exceeded 29,000, most of whom were women and children.
