Lebanon submits a complaint to the Security Council over Israeli aggression against south Lebanese villages and towns
The Lebanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs has submitted a complaint to the UN Security Council regarding the ongoing Israeli attacks on south Lebanon, which led to the martyrdom and injury of dozens over the past two days.
In the text of the complaint filed by Lebanon’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations yesterday, the Ministry explained that “an Israeli drone targeted a residential building in the city of Nabatieh with a guided missile, which led to the death of 10 people, including women and children, in addition to causing significant material damage to property. Another raid on the same day targeted a house in the town of Sawana, which led to the death of 3, a woman and her two children”.
“Since international humanitarian law guarantees the protection of civilians, Israel’s deliberate and direct bombing of civilians in their homes is considered as a violation of international humanitarian law, a war crime that exposes all those who participated in it directly and indirectly to international responsibility. It is also considered as a violation of Lebanon’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, safety of citizens and all UN resolutions that require Israel to stop its violations of Lebanese sovereignty, “the Ministry said.
The Ministry explained that the escalation increases at a time when international efforts are intensifying and diplomatic moves are active in order to calm down the situation in the region, which requires the international community to put pressure on the occupation to curb its ongoing aggressions.
The Ministry reiterated the Security Council’s demand for a clear condemnation of Israel’s direct, deliberate and repeated targeting of civilians, and to take all necessary measures to stop the Israeli aggressions, in order to prevent the escalation of the conflict and the involvement of the entire region in a full-scale and destructive war that will be difficult to control.
