Syria’s Permanent Representative to UN elected as rapporteur of Special Committee on Decolonization

The Special Committee on the Situation with regard to the Implementation of the Declaration on the Granting of Independence to Colonial Countries and Peoples, also known as the Special Committee on Decolonization on Thursday elected Syria’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations Qusay Al-Dahhak as its uncontested rapporteur, according to the Syrian News Agency (SANA).

The step came during an official meeting held by the committee.

In a speech, Al-Dahhak thanked and appreciated the confidence granted by members of the Decolonization Committee, affirming Syria’s support for the efforts of the Committee and its continued work to ensure the success of its mandate in supporting the colonized peoples and enabling them to gain their rights to independence and self-determination.

The committee was established according to UN resolution on November 27th,1961.
