The Serbian Embassy in Damascus celebrates the National Day of Serbia

The Serbian Embassy in Damascus held a reception on the occasion of the National Day of the Republic of Serbia, at the Golden Mazzeh Hotel in Damascus.
Serbian Ambassador in Damascus Radovan Stojanovic stressed in a speech during the ceremony that the relations between Syria and his country are rooted and built on the foundations of traditional friendship, mutual support and solidarity since the official establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries in 1946, noting Syria’s position and full support for Serbia’s sovereignty and regional independence, which is highly appreciated by the people and government of Serbia.
Ambassador Stojanovic pointed out that when the catastrophic earthquake struck Syria last February, the Serbian government was one of the first governments to send direct aid to the Syrian people, through Damascus International Airport and the port of Lattakia, which is the best evidence of the strong relations between Serbia and Syria, which are constantly improving.
In turn, Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Ayman Raad emphasized the depth of relations between the two countries, noting that political relations have witnessed continuous development since their inception through consultations and coordination within the framework of international organizations and the United Nations and by emphasizing the positions of the two countries regarding adherence to the principle of state sovereignty and rejection of external interference in their internal affairs, and standing up to attempts to break up countries and destabilize them.
Raad pointed out that the world today is in need of this type of relationship based on international legitimacy, especially in light of the ongoing Israeli attacks on civilian facilities that Syria faces.
Raad stressed Syria’s keenness to develop relations with friendly Serbia, as Syria has recently named a new ambassador to Belgrade, and an honorary consulate of the Republic of Serbia was opened in Tartous Governorate.
Raad noted the cooperation between the two countries in the cultural and educational fields, which will be the cornerstone for improving relations in all areas of cooperation, including the economic and commercial cooperation, in the hope that these relations will rise to the level of political relations between the two countries.
Raad praised Serbia’s humanitarian stance towards those affected by the devastating earthquake, which marked its first anniversary a few days ago, as Serbia was one of the first countries to take the initiative to generously send humanitarian aid to the Syrian people to help them overcome the effects of this disaster, which confirms the strength of the relationship between the peoples of the two countries as they are united by the values of goodness and humanity.
The ceremony was attended by the Minister of Culture, Dr. Lubana Mshaweh, the Minister of Agriculture and Agrarian Reform, Eng. Muhammad Hassan Qatana, the Minister of State for Southern Region Development Affairs, Dr. Diala Barakat, a number of department directors in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, and heads and representatives of diplomatic missions accredited in Damascus.
