Capitals, ST) -The Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court, Karim Khan expressed his concern about the disastrous repercussions of the Israeli occupation’s plan to invade the city of Rafah on the lives of the Palestinians.
AP quoted Khan as saying in a statement published on the X platform: My office is actively investigating any crimes suspected of having been committed, and those who violate the law will be held accountable, and the investigation into Gaza is moving forward as a matter of utmost urgency.
Khan pointed out that all wars have rules, and the laws applicable to armed conflict cannot be interpreted in a way that makes them hollow and empty of meaning.
For his part, European Union foreign policy official Josep Borrell criticized the Israeli occupation’s plans to invade the city of Rafah and its calls for the necessity of evacuating more than a million Palestinians who have taken refuge in the city, saying: They will be evacuated to where? to the moon? Where will they evacuate these people?
During a press conference in Brussels with Philippe Lazzarini, the Commissioner-General of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestinian Refugees (UNRWA), Borrell called on the United States and its allies to stop supplying “Israel” with weapons that kill Palestinians in large numbers.
In turn, Lazzarini expressed his concern regarding the occupation’s plan to invade the city of Rafah, given the untold civilian losses so far. He said: We are talking about five percent of the population killed, injured, or missing, more than one hundred thousand people out of two million people, and this in four months. “Just to be honest, I have no idea what a safe place in Gaza Strip means”, he clarified.
For his part, the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, Volker Türk considered that the possibility of the occupation forces invading the city of Rafah is terrifying. He called on world powers to work to stop this plan, given the possibility of a very large number of Palestinian civilian deaths and injuries.
He said that those who defy international law have been warned and the warning should be followed by accountability, calling on the international community to reach a ceasefire in Gaza to find a political solution.
