United Nations: we will not be party to the forced evacuation of Palestinians from Rafah

Yesterday, Spokesman for the Secretary General of United Nations, Stéphane Dujarric affirmed that the organization would not participate in the forced displacement operation of Palestinians from Rafah and there in no safe haven in Gaza Strip to transfer them.

According to Russia Today, Dujarric said in response to a question about the possibility of the participating of the UN in this evacuation operation, International Law must be fully respected and civilians must be protected, and citizens cannot be returned to areas filled with unexploded ordnance. In addition, there is a lack of shelter to return to, in reference to the northern and central areas of the Gaza Strip, which witnessed massive destruction.

Dujarric denounced the scarcity of humanitarian aid that inter the Gaza Strip, pointing out that the current stock may only be sufficient for a few days.

Last week, Dujarric affirmed the need to protect hundreds of thousands of Palestinians who took refuge in Rafah, stressing that the United Nations will in no way support the forced displacement that is opposed with the international law.

UN officials warned of the disastrous effects of the Israeli occupation’s plans to invade Rafah and displace Palestinians from it.
