Syria’s participation in “University 2024” Congress in Cuba confirms historical friendship between the two countries

Syria’s Ambassador to Cuba Ghassan Obaid has said that Syria’s participation in the 14th International Congress on Higher Education “University 2024” in Havana confirmed the historical friendship and successful cultural and scientific cooperation between Syria and Cuba.

Obaid made the remarks at the conclusion of the “University 2024” Congress, which was held in Havana on February 5 to 9 with the participation of a number of Cuban officials as well as 14 ministers and deputy ministers of higher education, representatives of 36 international universities and 2000 delegates representing 40 countries, including Syria.

Syria’s participation indicates the determination of Syrian society and the State to overcome the repercussions of the terrorist war on their country and to enhance ties with friendly countries, especially in the fields of higher education, he clarified.

Obaid pointed out that the plans and policies of higher education institutions are part of the plans and policies of socio-economic development in Syria, noting that the country seeks by all means to support higher education and scientific research and to conclude cooperation agreements between Syrian universities and their counterparts in other countries.

He renewed Syria’s appreciation of the honorable stances of Cuba and other friendly countries in support for Syria in the confrontation of the terrorist war, reiterating Syria’s firm support for Cuba in teh face of the US blockade and illegal sanctions.

In a statement to journalists, the Cuban Minister of Higher Education Walter Baloja Garcia affirmed that the “University 2024” Congress provides the participants with the opportunity to exchange knowledge and experiences and resume many international cooperation relations.
