The Iranian Ambassador in Damascus Hossein Akbari stressed that Iran’s relations with Syria are based on principles and values and not on interests, stressing his country’s continued standing with Syria.
During a press conference held yesterday at the embassy headquarters in Damascus on the occasion of the 45th anniversary of the triumph of the Islamic Revolution in Iran, Akbari said: “Syria, like the Islamic Republic of Iran, has paid enormous costs over the past four decades to remain in the axis of resistance, and our common relationship is based on principles rather than economic interests.”
Akbari pointed to Syria’s support for his country when it was subjected to an unjust war, as it did not hesitate to stand by it despite the unjust sanctions, pressures and threats that have continued since then.
Akbari explained that this year’s anniversary of the triumph of the revolution is going through special time conditions in the light of large and complex regional developments worldwide, but since the first day it has been built on the foundations, principles and slogans, the most important of which are the liberation of the Palestinian people from the Zionist entity.
In response to journalists ‘ questions, Akbari explained that all the member states of the resistance axis are pursuing their activities and work on the basis of United Nations regulations, laws and charter and are determined to defend the Palestinian cause, noting that Iran has registered its political idea and democratic initiative regarding occupied Palestine in the United Nations.
In response to another question, Akbari pointed out that the United States of America has been encouraging and supporting the Zionist entity since the beginning of its aggression in Gaza Strip, and has made efforts not to expand the war, not because it rejects it and defends human rights and the people of Gaza, but because it knows that the axis of resistance is strong.
Akbari added: “the United States is thinking of withdrawing or staying in Syria at the lowest cost, and it knows perfectly well that by remaining it commits a crime against the Syrian people, and by leaving it, all the Syrian prople’s economic and agricultural problems will be solved”, regretting the failure of international organizations to defend human rights in countries such as Syria, Lebanon, Palestine, Iran and Yemen.
