Russian Emergency: Work is underway to establish a center for training firefighters and rescue personnel in Syria

Russian Emergency Situations Minister Aleksandr Korenkov  has announced that a center for training firefighters and rescue personnel will be established in Syria.

“At the present time, the location of the future center is being determined, as our country will supply locally produced machines and equipment to Syria,” Korenkov said in a press statement on Tuesday.

He noted that it is planned to use them in the educational process, and in practical activities to ensure the security of Syrian citizens.

Korenkov pointed out that this will allow Syrian emergency services to increase their response capabilities to emergency situations.

The Russian government’s order regarding the establishment of the center was signed in December last year.

As the Ministry of Emergency Situations indicated, earlier yesterday , Korenkov had  discussed issues of promising bilateral partnership with the Syrian Ambassador to Moscow, Dr. Bashar al-Jaafari.

The Ministry pointed out that a year ago, while inspecting the effects of the earthquake, Russian specialists conducted practical training on first aid, mountain training, firefighting and rescue, and it became clear that these categories are relevant and needed.

The administration’s press service added: The two sides expressed their common opinion that such an exchange of experiences must be based  on a permanent basis. The Syrian side will also study the possibility of participating in the international exhibition “Integrated Security,” which will be held at the end of next May in the Moscow region.
