Al-Sudani stresses need to maintain security in Syria as it is linked to Iraq’s security

Baghdad-(ST)-  Iraqi Prime Minister Muhammad Shiaa Al-Sudani has stressed the need to strengthen security in Syria because of its role in achieving stability in the region.

During his meeting with Turkish Defense Minister Yaşar Guler in Baghdad yesterday, Al-Sudani affirmed the importance of maintaining security in Syria, because of it is linked to the national security of Iraq and Turkey,” according to a statement reported by the Iraqi News Agency (INA) agency.

In a related context, Al-Sudani renewed his refusal to any neasures that could undermine Iraq’s sovereignty, in reference to the repeated Turkish attacks on northern Iraq. He also affirmed his commitment to the constitutional principles of preventing the use of Iraqi lands to attack neighboring countries, noting in this regard “the necessity of coordination between the two countries in order to create the foundations for stability.”

During his meeting with Guler, Iraqi President Abdul Latif Jamal Rashid stressed the importance of respecting Iraqi sovereignty and stopping the Turkish military violations that affect Iraqi territory, asserting the need to discuss the water issue and ensure a fair share for Iraq.
